Son of Nigerian President Weds Daughter of Prominent Monarch

Last week witnessed the gathering of the most prominent Nigerian elites, as the only son of President Muhammadu Buhari, Yusuf Buhari, 27, married his beautiful bride, Zahra, 19-year-old daughter of a prominent monarch in the northern region of the country,

Thousands of well-wishers also marked their attendance in the wedding which spanned over the weekend.

Among the powerful guests at the who attended the deluxe ceremony included the country’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former President Goodluck Jonathan, former vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Gambia’s First Lady Fatoumata Bah Barrow and the former president of neighbouring Niger, Muhammadu Issoufou.

President Buhari’s nephew, Mamman Daura filled in as a representative of the groom, while business mogul Aminu Dantata stood in as a representative of the bride.

Days before the wedding, the groom and bride had organized pre-wedding celebrations with the bride hosting a bridal shower while the groom and friends organized a special Polo tournament.

After the wedding, the President organized a luncheon for the newly weds. The luncheon was held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

BBC Hausa reports that the President’s son paid the sum of 500,000 naira (around $1,200) as a bride price to the bride’s family.
