For those who are familiar with Michael Strahan’s brilliance, his latest career exploration into skincare would not surprise them.
The NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame and Emmy Award-winning TV personality recently partnered with Evolved By Nature, a biotechnology company, to create the Michael Strahan Daily Defense – a collection of five products to help every man score great skin.
Strahan tells PEOPLE, “I’ve always been into my skin” — but never prioritized it until his career shifted from the football field to the TV studio.
“As an athlete, you’re just putting the helmet on, taking a helmet off, and using soap and whatever — you don’t have time for a routine. Now, [because of] the career that I am in and the makeup that I have to wear, I have one that I stick to.”
Strahan explains that the move is also about boosting confidence, in himself in and others. Having launched a highly successful apparel line, he says skincare and grooming products were a logical addition to his growing lifestyle empire to help guys look and feel good.
“Clothes are about confidence. We’ve done that. Skin is about confidence, too. So it was the next evolutionary step,” he says.
Strahan says his family played a role in his interest in his decision to branch into skincare and grooming, too. “The women in my life take care of their skin and have always said, ‘you should do this and you should do that.’ But when searching products, I found that there was a missing link in that market.”
In a statement also shared with The Root, Strahan says his new skin and shave line is intended to make men look and feel their best.
“From our launch with apparel to today’s debut of a skin and shave collection, all of our products under the Michael Strahan brand are designed to help people look and feel their best. A perfectly fitting suit has always helped me feel more confident, but dressing well is only a piece of the equation. Taking care of your skin is an important component of developing a daily routine,” he said.
