Iba One, Wizkid, Sauti Sol & Others Made History at the 2021 AFRIMA Awards

Iba One, the biggest winner of the night

The seventh annual All African Music Awards (AFRIMA) held on Sunday night, November 21, at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. The yearly show is a celebration of music talent from various countries in Africa.

Several big shots and upcoming artists won awards during the Sunday ceremony, which was hosted by Eddie Kadi and Pearl Thusi.

Malian singer, Iba One was the biggest winner of the night as he won four awards, including; Album of the Year, African Male Artist in Inspirational Music, Best Song Writer, and Best Male Artist from Western Africa.

Nigeria’s Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, professionally known as Wizkid also emerged as one of the biggest winners at the Awards.

The Essence crooner raced ahead of the likes of fellow countrymen Burna Boy, Davido, Omah Lay and Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), South Africa’s Blaq Diamond, and others to grab the highly contested Best Artist of the Year award.

He also won the Best Song of the Year for Essence featuring Tems, and Best African Collaboration Award for the same song.

Kenya’s Nikita Kering took home the RnB Artist of the Year, while Nigeria’s Fireboy DML emerged top in the African Fan’s Favorite category.

  • Best Male Artist in Northern Africa – Dizzy Dros
  • Best Male Artist in Eastern Africa – Eddy Kenzo
  • Best Female Artist Central Africa – Shan L
  • Best Female Artist in East Africa – Nikita Kering
  • Male Artist Central Africa – Fally Ipupa
  • Best Male Southern Africa – Blaq Diamond
  • Best Male Artist Western Africa – Iba One
