Davido Donates $608,509 To Orphanage Homes Saying “We Rise By Lifting Others”

African superstar singer, David Adeleke popularly known by his stage name Davido, has grabbed headlines across the continent for his kind gestures.

The Fall crooner on Friday, November 19 donated the sum of 250 million naira ($608,509) he received as birthday gifts from friends, to orphanages across his home country of Nigeria.

He made the announcement in a statement he shared on his Twitter and Instagram page titled, “Donation of NGN 250,000,000 to Orphanages Across Nigeria”.

In the post, the multiple award-winning singer expressed gratitude to his friends, fans and the public for the expression of love he got with the donation.

The singer who is famed for preaching love with his moniker – we rise by lifting others – walked his talk as he added N50 million to the initial N200 million donation.

“I’m delighted to announce that all the money received totaling N200,000,000.00, will be donated to orphanages across Nigeria as well as the Paroche foundation (a non-governmental organization that enlightens the youth on substance abuse and rehabilitation referrals),” said Davido

According to the statement, a five-man disbursement committee – with three professors and one pastor – was set up by the singer to see to the sharing.

Titi Adebayo who works with Adult social services, will be the Chairman of a committee set up to properly facilitate the donation. Others in the committee include Jonathan Nwosu, Yahana Joel Asabe of Northern Nigeria Seventh-day Adventist Union Conference and Uluoma Onuha.

Davido shook his country days before his 29th birthday as he took to his Instagram page on Wednesday, November 17 and called out his friends to celebrate him by sending money to his account.

He wrote, “If u know I’ve given you a hit song … send me money,” and he went on to give details of a new Wema bank account.

Within minutes of making the post, the pop star started receiving millions in his Wema Bank account, totaling 200 million at the end of the challenge.
