Ugandan athletes who won a medal at the just concluded Tokyo Olympics have been promised a reward of luxurious vehicles, houses and monthly stipend by President Yoweri Museveni.

They received a hero’s welcome after landing at the country’s Entebbe airport.

Keeping up with the frenzy that has greeted their welcome, the President also directed that the athletes be paid an earlier promise of $1,415, $845 and $280 monthly salary to the athletes who won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively.

The three medalists are Joshua Cheptegei who won Gold medal in the Men’s 5,000 metres, Stella Chesang, Peruth Chemutai who won a Gold medal in the women’s 3,000 metres and Jacob Kiplimo who won Bronze in Men’s 10,000 meters.

Museveni’s flurry of gifts also includes homes to Gold medalists and their parents, while other medalists would receive cash rewards.

“I want to gift each athlete who gave us a medal at the Olympics a car and cash,” said Museveni. The new vehicles will be awarded as follows; two Mitsubishi Outlanders for the gold medalist and a Mitsubishi L200 for silver medalist,” the President announced.
