In South Africa, Vaccinated Football Fans Get Free Entry to Stadiums

South Africa’s football team

The South African football association has announced that football fans who are vaccinated will be given free entry to watch the national team play against Ethiopia in the next World Cup qualifier in October.

Announcing the decision, the FA head, Danny Jordaan said the vaccinated fans would get half of the tickets.

This development by the government is part of its national campaign to get up to 40 million of its population vaccinated.

After an initial difficulty in accessing vaccines, the South African government now has more than enough vaccines to get its citizens fully vaccinated.

Explaining why the country chose stadiums as an incentive for vaccination, Mr Jordaan referenced how vaccination was used as a requirement for the fans to get into the stadium at the Euro 2020 tournament held in June.

“When you look at what happens in Europe, why is it that the Euro finals can have over 60,000 people in the stadium celebrating before, during, and after the match?” Mr Jordaan says

“It’s very clear that, if you’re unvaccinated, you can’t come to the stadium.”

“We want you to come to the stadium. We don’t want you to go to the hospital.”
