The struggles a female artist experiences to succeed in the music industry are well documented. Like most industries, women have to work harder than men to get the same recognition and compensation. Tomilola
The simplest way to describe Tomilola’s voice is to say that it is like honey. It’s rich, sweet, and makes you feel a certain type of way. Having said that, Tomilola is still a baby on the scene. She recruited the incredible duo, the Cavemen, for her debut single‘Let go’ just last year, and on her sophomore track ‘Mo Yato’, released a few weeks ago, she takes control and rides the beat in a mix of English and Yoruba. She sings with her heart on her sleeve and does an excellent job making her listeners feel connected to the emotions in her music. The future looks bright for Tomilola.

Amaarae
Ghanian Artiste, Amaarae is certainly a special talent. “I want to be the quintessential African princess of pop, but I wouldn’t want to have to sacrifice the integrity of my music to do that,” she said in an interview with Pitchfork. Amaarae’s sound is what a section of Nigerians would call ‘Alté,’ a slang for ‘alternative,’ but it’s much more than that. She is a ’90’s baby so her sound is heavily inspired by ’90’s R&B, rap and Hip-Hop. She even has a touch of pop-rock and house music vibes at times. Her November released debut album ‘The Angel You Don’t know’ is a blend of all these sounds which she mixes so smoothly, it’s soothing to your ears.

Tems
Tems is really coming into her own and stamping her name on the industry. Her fan base ‘Rebel Gang’ loves her so much and frequently gets her trending on Twitter and with just cause; her music is amazing! Her debut project ‘For Broken Ears’ charted high and from the upbeat vibe in ‘The Key’ to the slower-paced ‘Ice T’ she displays the vocal prowess that makes her one of the hottest talents out of Nigeria at the moment.
Ayra Starr
There isn’t a much better way to announce yourself to the Nigerian music scene than a public announcement from Don Jazzy, a veteran in the game. It helps if the music is good too and in Ayra Starr’s debut project, ‘Ayra Starr’ she shows the world just why Don Jazzy signed her to his Mavin Music Group.

Bella Allubo
Bella is an artiste that is perhaps not as popular as she deserves to be. She released her first project, ‘re-Bella’ in 2018 and has consistently released EP’s every year since. Her latest work, ‘Chrystical’, is a joint project with producer, Kani Beatz. She has a soft voice but can switch up her vibe if needed, as she did in the track featuring Psycho YP from her EP.
