Dorsey Names 4 Africans To Lead Bitcoin Trust Fund

Three Nigerians and a South African have been appointed by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey on the board of his Bitcoin trust fund (BTrust).

Dorsey made the announcement in a statement shared on Twitter on Wednesday, December 15.

The nominees, Abubakar Nur Khalil, Obi Nwosu, Ojoma Ochai, and Carla Kirk-Cohen would spearhead the disbursement of 500 BTC capital base across Africa and India for the purpose of development.

“I’m so grateful for you all and so inspired,” Dorsey tweeted on Wednesday,

“They’ll now work towards defining the operating principles as they think about how to best distribute the 500 bitcoin towards development efforts.”

Bitcoin trust fund (BTrust) was formed by Dorsey in partnership with American billionaire rapper Jay Z in February 2021. Upon the formation, the two announced their plans to fund bitcoin development in Africa and India by donating 500 BTC to a trust fund.

Here is a short profile of the four-man team which Dorsey said were chosen from a pool of 7,000 applicants:

Abubakar Khalil is the chief technology officer at Recursive Capital and he is a bitcoin core contributor having recently received $50,000 worth of BTC from Human Rights Foundation for his project on Bitcoin wallet software.

Obi Nwosu is the co-founder of a serd-level cryptocurrency startup called Coinfloor. The startup has reportedly raised about $300,000 in funding rounds.

Ojoma Ochai is a managing partner at Co-Creation Hub, a technology innovation workspace accelerating startup growth in Nigeria.

Carl Kirk-Cohen is a South African software engineer who has built experience working with one of the largest crypto exchange in Africa, Luno.
