Côte d’Ivoire: Fashion Show features Persons with Disabilities as Models to Mark International Day

In Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, a fashion show has gained prominence after it featured persons with disabilities as models.

The fashion show, “Fortes au Pluriel” (Strong in numbers) was organized by Mougnan Foundation on Friday, December 3, to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

A report about the event by Africa News highlighted that twenty women, including wheelchair users and amputees, walked the runway at the iconic fashion show.

According to Mougnan Foundation, ‘Fortes au Pluriel’ is an extension of its commitment to improve quality of life for disabled women in the country.

The disability initiative was founded by Ange Grace Beho in early 2021 after she lost her right arm in a traffic accident.

“I had a traffic accident and I found myself with this disability. Afterward, I noticed that there were no young women with disabilities in the field. There were more men and women of a certain age,” Beho said.

“So I brought my sisters together, to create a foundation, which will really help them without having to wait for state aid, so that they can be independent and take charge of themselves.”
