Afrobeats the Genre’s New Music List!

We are all very excited when artists release new music, though with the frequency of new releases it can be difficult to keep track and you’re likely to miss out on some of the best ones, and that’s where we come in. Afrobeats the Genre, a branch of the Amplify Africa family, compiles a list of our favorite new releases every week and keeps a regularly updated playlist across different platforms. Jae5 ft Skepta & Rema – Dimension

Prior to the release of this single, legendary UK artist, Skepta posted a message on his Instagram story saying that he would be retiring from music after this track and one other collaboration with ‘Bando & L’s’. If Skepta is really bowing out of the game then he is doing so with a bang. It’s a debut single for London-based producer Jae5 and he has recruited afrobeats golden boy Rema, and Grime veteran, Skepta to produce a meaningful track with a vibe!

Justin Bieber ft Burna Boy – Loved By You

Shoutout to all the Beliebers out there! It’s a good time to be a belieber because it seems Justin is in the sharing mood. Fresh off the release of his 2020 album Changes he’s back with another one for 2021, Justice. One of the stand-out tracks for us is ‘Loved By You’, and it features one of the newest Grammy winners in town, the self-proclaimed ‘AFRICAN GIANT.’

Gyakie ft Omah Lay – Forever (Remix)

The Ghanian-based artist rose to fame in late 2020 with the release of Forever off her EP Seed. It’s a love song that’s simple yet catchy, and she flows through the beat effortlessly with her amazing voice. It seems she made the right choice picking rising star Omah Lay for the remix, as he has the Midas touch right now with everything he touches turning to gold. Fun Fact: Omah Lay wrote his verse to the song the first-ever time he heard it, before even speaking to Gyakie about a remix.

Dapo Tuburna – I Remember Everything

Dapo Tuburna is a Nigerian-based afro-fusion artist who describes his sound as Gingo vibes and it’s a blend of Afrobeat, dancehall, and storytelling. The EP, I Remember Everything, is his first body of work that he has put out to the world.

“This project means life to me and it’s basically about everything I remember that keeps me going. This project talks about my down times and how everything is about to change for the best.” Dapo said speaking about his EP. The lead single off the project features the self-proclaimed Mayor of Lagos, Mayorkun.

Crayon ft Bella Shmurda – Jackpot

Crayon really took off in 2019 with a deal with Mavin Records, the leading record label in Nigeria, and the release of his debut project Cray Cray. Like many other artists, he spent 2020 recording and will be releasing his second project, an EP titled Twelve A.M, later this year. The lead single features one of the hottest afrobeats artists right now Bella Shmurda, so you already know it’s a jam.

MI ft. Sinzu & Erigga – TBDK

Fresh off his surprise collaboration with his rival Vector, MI Abaga takes us back to classic rap with his new single TBDK, an acronym for ‘This Beat Dey Knock’. The track was produced by MI’s longtime producer Chopstixx and features the legendary Sinzu and Erigga. If you like classic rap, then this one is for you.

Idowest – Mafia Culture (Vol 2)

This one is for all the Street Hop fans, Idowest is back with a follow-up project to his debut, Mafia Culture Vol1. The project is packed with some major collaborations as it features Davido, Patoranking, Bella Shmurda, Mayorkun, Zlatan, Mohbad, and more. As you can expect the 10-track EP is full of energy and positive vibes.

Brainee ft Oxlade – Kpokom

Upcoming artist Brainee raps about his love interest with catchy lines and smooth flow in his storytelling as Oxlade rides the chorus with a catchy melody. It’s a catchy song that gets you moving.

Naira Marley ft Busiwa – Coming

A Nigeria x South Africa Collab? Naira Marley and Busiswa can’t go wrong on this song. The Amapiano sound has been making a lot of waves recently and this is one of the tracks that will stand out in that space because of the caliber of the artists behind the track. Amapiano is here to stay and we are here for it.

Teni – Wondaland

One of the most exciting artists in Nigeria has finally released her debut album. The highly anticipated Wondaland has 17 songs and the only feature is on the lead single with Davido that has been topping charts and dominating airwaves in Nigeria. Teni is probably one of the most hardworking artists right now, this is her 3rd project release in 3 years and it shows in the quality of music that she makes. Teni is a star and we’re excited about her growth.
