Wizkid Makes History At The 2022 American Music Awards

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, Wizkid has won the awards for Favorite Afrobeats Artist and Favorite RnB song for his 2021 hit single ‘Essence’ featuring fellow Nigerian singer Tems.

The ‘Favorite Afrobeats Artist’ award category was established this year and Wizkid has become the the first Artist to win in that category. Other nominees for the inaugural year included Burna Boy, Ckay, Fireboy DML and Tems.

The ‘Essence’ crooner has become the first African artiste to win 2 awards consecutively at the AMAs.

The 2022 AMAs which took place at the Microsoft Theatre on November 20th, marked the 50th anniversary of the awards ceremony. This year’s award show saw performances from Carrie Underwood, Glorilla and Cardi B, J I.D, Wizkid and Tems.

Wizkid’s AMA win is just one of the many successes he has had this year which includes the release of his fifth studio album, ‘More Love Less Ego’ which has been raking in numbers on the charts to his Apple Music Live concert and a successful sold-out show at the Madison Square Garden.
