Wes Moore Makes History As United States’ Third Black Elected Governor

Best-selling author and previous head of the anti-poverty organization Robin Hood, Wes Moore has made history as the third elected Black governor in the History of the United States and the first for the state of Maryland as he snatches 59.7 of the votes.

Moore joins the likes of Douglas Wilder of Virginia and Deval Patrick as the only Black governors elected in the United States’ 246-year history.

“What an amazing night,” Moore said as he took the stage in Baltimore following his victory, “and what an improbable journey.”
