Senegal Places Fourth in Beach Soccer World Cup

Senegal against Switzerland

The Teranga Lions of Senegal have ended their impressive run in the 2021 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup as the fourth best team.

The African Champions played their last match, a third place decider against Switzerland at the Luzhniki Beach Soccer Arena and they lost 9-7 to the team.

Ahead of the semi-finals which they lost against Japan 5-2, Senegal had made strides against 14- time champions Brazil to become the first African team to reach the semi-finals of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

They went down 3-1 after 23 minutes but drew inspiration from themselves and made it 3-3 10 minutes later. The African side then fought back and won 5-4 with two more goals in the last 3 minutes after the Brazilian side pulled one back.

In May, Senegal became African champions after defeating Mozambique in the African Beach Soccer Cup of Nations.
