Senegal Gets Africa’s First Win at 2022 FIFA World Cup

It’s finally a day of relief for fans of African teams at the 2022’s FIFA World Cup as Senegal’s Lions of Teranga record the first win of any African team at the tournament.

Senegal has revived their Group A campaign after scoring 3 goals to 1 against the World Cup hosts of the FIFA tournament, Qatar. Meanwhile the back to back defeat of Qatar has seen the host country at the brink of exiting their own World Cup depending on the outcome Ecuador VS Netherlands match scheduled for later today.

From the Five African teams that qualified for Qatar 2022, Senegal was the first to play. They had suffered a 2-0 defeat at their Group A opening match against Netherlands followed by Tunisia’s barren draw against Denmark in Group D.

In Group F, Morroco and Croatia also played a goaless draw. Cameroon had suffered a humiliating defeat from Switzerland in a Group G tie where the deciding goal was scored by Embolo, a Cameroonian playing for Switzerland. 

Hours later, Ghana was edged in a 3-2 defeat against Portugal in Group H. Senegal’s win has set them ahead of other African teams in Qatar.

The first goal was scored by Dia after a defensive mistake by Boualem Khoukhi at 41 minutes. The second goal came 3 minutes after the second half with Diedhiou’s header. The hosts responded with steam when substitute Muntari provided a moment of history by pulling one back giving the Qataris some element of hope at 78 minutes in the game however, Dieng made sure to put an end to that hope at 82 minutes when he scored the final goal of the match putting the total goal scored to 3-1.
