Afrobeats on Tour!

2020 was the year of the lockdown due to the COVID-19 global pandemic and that meant no mass gatherings, which for the music industry meant no in-person events or concerts. This obviously hit everyone hard, fans were denied the chance the see their favorite artists perform on stage, and artists were denied revenue that they would have received from those concerts and events. Thankfully, the scientists were able to develop vaccines in record time and as a result, more people are protected and the lockdowns are being lifted and we are seeing concerts and events pop up again. In this article, we highlight some of the biggest afrobeats tours and concerts of the year!

Wizkid

Big Wiz is showing all the signs of a man that is blessed. Essence is undeniably the song of Summer ’21, and Wizkid has capitalized on its success by releasing a remix to the song as part of a newly released deluxe version of his 2020 album, Made In Lagos. He continues to break records, not only with his music but with tour dates as well, selling out some dates in a matter of minutes.

Lookout, one of the hottest artists in the world right now might be coming to a city near you.

Burna Boy

The Grammy-winning Afrobeats artist isn’t exactly on a named tour but he is out and about in the streets as he hasn’t had that much of a chance to tour since winning the Grammy. He was at the 02 Arena in London a few weeks ago and is lined up to perform at a host of other shows and events, including a headline show at the Hollywood bowl, which would make him the first Afrobeats artist to perform at this iconic venue.

Tems

If there was ever a perfect time for Tems to go on tour then it would be right now! Her stock as an artist continues to rise. This year her track with Wizkid helped take her to new heights and brought a whole lot of new listeners to her party, then Justin Bieber remixes the song, she features on Drake’s long-awaited album and she has just released a new EP. A combination of this and some other factors have helped Tems become one of the most streamed African acts in the world at the moment.

Lost in Riddim

This music festival is bringing some of the biggest African and Caribbean artists to Sacramento, California next month including Wizkid AND Burna Boy! Additional performers in the lineup include Tems, Goldlink, Rotimi, Mr. Eazi, Tiwa Savage, Koffee, and many more. The festival founders Fornati Kumeh and Jehu “Manny” Hunter are Sacramento residents and when asked why they chose there for the festival, Kumeh said, “home is where the heart is, and there’s no better place to express yourself.” “We’ve lived here most of our lives. We want to build something special here,” Hunter added.
