John Legend has revealed plans to launch his own range of skincare to cater for the needs of “darker, melanin skin”.

The Grammy award-winning artist recently announced the collaboration with A-Frame in an interview with Fortune. A-Frame, founded in 2009, has previously partnered with Gabrielle Union and Naomi Osaka’s beauty lines.

In the interview, the All Of Me singer said the skincare brand will focus on darker shades of skin because it is “necessary for many reasons”.

He added, “everybody has skin, and everybody cares about their skin, and everybody cares about presenting themselves well in every situation, whether it’s family, community, or wherever they are. It’s such an important part of who they are and how they present themselves to the world, and how they feel.”

The skincare brand is still in development and yet to have a name, but Legend promises it will provide a solution to issues faced by many with darker skin like pH imbalance and dryness.

Speaking about the partnership, A-Frame’s Chief Brand Officer, Martin Ekechukwu said, “The entire purpose of the business is to create products for people who need them the most. And we’re defining ‘people who need them the most’ as Black, Brown, Asian and [people with disabilities] … anyone for whom there has been nothing specifically created for you, from the ground up.”
