‘Essence’ by Nigeria’s Wizkid Becomes Most Shazamed Song in the U.S.

Essence, a hit song off the Made in Lagos, album by Nigeria’s Wizkid, featuring Tems has been announced as the most “shazamed” song in the United States.

Shazam is a popular music application that helps music lovers identify the name of a song and the artist by listening to a sample of the audio.

On Monday, the Apple-owned Shazam announced the latest landmark for Essence while sharing the Top 200 Most Shazamed songs in the U.S.

The company posted a picture of Wizkid on their Instagram page with the caption, “Big Congrats to @wizkidayo!! #Essence is now the most Shazamed song in the United States.”

Essence, is the 11th track on Wizkid’s fourth studio album, Made in Lagos which was released in October 2020.

The track has enjoyed so much recognition in different parts of the world that it is popularly called the song of the summer and became the first Nigerian song to crack the Billboard chart.

Recently, Wizkid released a remix of the song with Canadian pop star, Justin Bieber. The remix propelled the hit track to number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
