AMPLIFY AFRICA PRESENTS : AFRO BALL 2019
Recap of the 2019 Afro Ball held at the Alexandria Ballrooms in Los Angeles, May 17th, 2019 Presented by Amplify Africa and honoring 15 distinctive individuals of African descent who have made exemplary contributions to their communities and respective fields in the categories of Tech, STEM, Entertainment, Media, Medicine, Philanthropy, Education and more. The 2nd annual event honored selected individuals with congressional certificates of achievement for innovators, educators, doctors, creatives, tech gurus and philanthropists such Afam Oyema of the Geanco Foundation, a surgical mission charity which has been endorsed by celebs such as Benedict Cumberbatch, Oscar winning actor, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and award winning actor David Oyelowo. Also 21-year old tech extraordinaire Idriss Sandu, who partnered Apple, Snapchat and the late Nipsey Hussle to create STEM based initiatives in underserved communities, Blavity Editor in Chief, and Forbes 30 under 30 recipient Lilly Workneh, Dr. Yaw Appiah, co-founder of The Brain Project Africa The Grapevine TV Creator, Ashley Akunna, Habesha Networks founder Melate Bekele, Beauty maven and content creator Jackie Aina, The CW's Dynasty actor, Sam Adegoke, The Shade Room founder, and Forbes 30 under 30 recipient Angelica Nwandu and more! Through the Amplify Africa foundation, this year's gala will also raise funds to be awarded to students with interests in the arts through Amplify Africa College Initiative.
