Burna Boy Wins Best International Act Third Year in a Row

Burna Boy’s hot streak continues as he brought home the Best International Act award at the 21st BET awards on Sunday. The BET Awards celebrate the achievements of Black people in entertainment, sports, music, television, and other categories.

This year’s awards saw a return to an in-person ceremony which was hosted by Taraji P. Henson and attended by a group of stars including some of the biggest names in entertainment.

For the 3rd year in a row, Burna Boy emerged victorious in the Best International Act category. He beat fellow Nigerian superstar Wizkid, Tanzanian Diamond Platnumz, Aya Nakamura, Emicida, Headie One, Young T & Bugsey and Youssoupha to take home this year’s prize.

“I made it this time to collect my award myself,” he said before he taught the audience a bit of Pidgin English.

I want to teach you guys a little bit about where you are all really from,” he said with his mother standing beside him before urging them to speak a phrase in Pidgin English.

Three-peat, that’s my third one, back to back,” he said in a video on BET’s social media page.

It is no surprise that Burna Boy won this category. Earlier this year, he also won the most prestigious award in the music industry, becoming the first Nigerian to win a Grammy for his own body of work. The awards will serve as recognition to Burna Boy who has worked harder than anybody else in recent years, releasing 3 critically acclaimed albums in 3 years back to back. It certainly was not an easy feat and is one that will be very hard to be replicated.
