On February 1, Amplify Africa launched a video competition calling for creatives to submit an original video based on a subject that unites or connects Africa and the African Diaspora, or that showcases how they personally bridge the gap between the continent and the African diaspora.
Since it was founded in 2016, Amplify Africa has been dedicated to amplifying the voices in Africa and the Diaspora and representing Blackness all around the world. This contest was a way to celebrate all of our unique qualities while recognizing the similarities that exist between African Americans, Afro Caribbeans, Africans on the continent, and those who make up the international Black collective.
There were dozens of submissions from talented creatives which were submitted as Instagram posts using the hashtags #AmplifyTheDiaspora and #AmplifyAfrica. The top 10 were selected by the Amplify Africa team and then presented to the public to vote for their favorite. After an overwhelming response, the top 4 were selected.
Amplify Africa partnered with The ShadeRoom and Chick-Fil-A (E. Colorado Blvd) to present the following prizes: 1st place – $2,000, 2nd place – $1,500, 3rd place – $1,000 and 4th place – $500. Everyone showed out with creativity as all the videos were truly exceptional and captured the essence of the prompt perfectly. Watch the top 4 videos below:
